This bodiless creation ecstasy" Hamlet: lll, iv
Painting evokes unexpected
changes in my identity. My paintings begin with a thought, a post-modern
parody of fate. The thought, a curiosity born of idle discontent, waxes long
before the manifestation. Within my mind a possibility emerges; a nascent
longing for anarchy in my well-controlled life. Due to the vast
possibilities of accident, or fortune, I am able to find expression without
control. A lesson in my true powerlessness makes me an artist. Layers,
mixtures, and colors become not a conscious choice, but surrender to
intemperance.
Dana Scinto is an industrial artist with an engineering background. Through
the study of classical and postmodern ideals, she forms the unpredictable
backdrops of her unusual art. Her vivid and colorful creations emerge from a
number of different materials, including but not limited to wood, metal,
plastics and industrial coatings. Since 2002, Dana has been a member of
Stamford, CT’s non-profit Loft Artist Association. In January 2005, she took
the lead as president of this 80 member artist commune. Recently, Dana began
self-publishing some of her series on the internet. Her work can be found in
both private and corporate collections in Connecticut, New York and Florida.
